Our Headmistresses

Michelle Kasey (she/her)

Michelle Kasey (she/her) has been captivating audiences as a professional dancer and teacher since 2011. Her journey into the world of sensual dance began at 19, when she nervously stepped into a pole dancing studio. Her passion took off, leading her to become a two-time national pole dance champion. In 2018, she was honoured as the Industry Person of the Year, and most recently, she performed alongside Snoop Dogg in 2023, showcasing her dynamic performance skills to an audience of 40,000.

In 2018, Michelle discovered a new passion: burlesque. This transition marked the beginning of her rise as one of Aotearoa’s prominent burlesque artists. Michelle explores the realms of the erotic with a mesmerising blend of sensual fluidity and feminine power, although she loves to experiment with other styles to enrich her artistic expression.

Teaching remains Michelle’s greatest love. Having taught thousands of students globally, she finds unique fulfilment in teaching burlesque. Her approach is warm, playful, and generous, offering sizzling choreography that integrates dance technique, character development, and sensual embodiment.

Outside the dance studio, Michelle is an award-winning Sex and Relationships Therapist and Writer. She engages her audiences by weaving therapeutic insights with artistic expression, making her a unique voice in both fields.

Kiki Kisses (she/her)  

Kiki Kisses (she/her), a luminary in the realm of burlesque, has been enchanting audiences for over a decade with her captivating performances and empowering teachings. Her illustrious journey into the world of burlesque began ten years ago, where she swiftly emerged as a standout artist in Melbourne, showcasing her talents across both New Zealand and Australia in over 400 shows. Whangarei to Invercargill, there are few places in NZ Kiki hasn’t dazzled.

As the reigning Duchess of New Zealand Burlesque and a celebrated Grand Tease Winner, Kiki’s prowess on stage is undeniable. Her performances are a seamless blend of sensuality, artistry, and theatricality, leaving audiences spellbound and craving more. In 2018, Kiki was crowned Miss Pinup New Zealand, solidifying her status as a leading figure in the burlesque and vintage scene.

Beyond her captivating performances and accolades, Kiki is a dedicated educator, sharing her expertise with a new generation of performers. For the past three years, she has been nurturing and inspiring students all over NZ, infusing them with the same passion, freedom and confidence that defines her artistry – along with a few giggles! Private tuitions, hens parties, workshops and now full courses with The Velvet Haven.

Outside of her role as an instructor, Kiki wears many creative hats. She is a talented designer, bringing her unique vision to life through jewelry (Kunty Couture) and multimedia design. Additionally, Kiki is a registered wedding celebrant in New Zealand, adding a touch of glamour and personality to couples’ special day.

Kiki Kisses embodies the essence of burlesque—bold, empowering, and unapologetically authentic. Her journey continues to inspire and uplift, both on stage and beyond, as she continues to push boundaries and redefine the art of sensual performance.

In addition to their teaching prowess, Robin is a beloved mainstay in the Wellington cabaret scene, charming and thrilling audiences with every performance. An all-round heartthrob, Robin’s charismatic presence and dedication to the art of burlesque make them an invaluable asset to The Velvet Haven and an inspiration to all aspiring performers. We are overjoyed to have the radiant Ginger Velour join The Velvet Haven team in Wellington! Hailing all the way from Los Angeles, Ginger is an exceptional burlesque dance teacher whose infectious energy and warm spirit light up every room she enters.

Ginger has graced stages in the entertainment capital of the world, Las Vegas, dazzling audiences with her performances. Now, she brings her vast experience and unique flair to Aotearoa, where she continues to shine both as Ginger Velour and as the award-winning Drag King, Braiden Butter.

As a beloved performer and teacher, Ginger embodies the perfect blend of talent and heart. Her commitment to the art of burlesque and her dedication to nurturing the next generation of performers make her an invaluable addition to The Velvet Haven.
